Margaret’s practice includes representing and counseling clients in matters of federal and state employment law, education law, policy review and compliance, student discipline, board governance, ethics laws compliance, Freedom of Information Act compliance, and non-profit and 501(c)(3) formation and compliance.
Prior to joining Turner & Caudell, Margaret served as General Counsel & Director of Legal Services for the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina. Through her background, Margaret understands that charter schools are often confronted with complicated and time-sensitive legal issues and enjoys assisting charter school boards and administrators with navigating the unique challenges of starting and operating a charter school. Margaret has presented on a variety of legal issues and conducted training sessions for charter school board members and administrators.
Margaret attended college at Gonzaga University where she double majored in political science and history and had the privilege of serving as Student Body President her senior year. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Washington School of Law and enjoyed the opportunity of representing and counseling employers in Alaska before relocating to South Carolina.
Margaret is based in the Charleston area and has two sons who received a large part of their educational foundation through attending and thriving at a South Carolina charter school. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and, whenever possible, at the beach.
